Scientific Discussion on Extra-Terrestrial Life

At a recent Royal Scientific Discussion Meeting in London on “The detection of extra-terrestrial life and the consequences for science and society” Dr Martin Dominik of the School of Physics and Astronomy said that rapid advances in space exploration have made the discovery of life on other planets a real possibility.
A report released by the Institute of Physics predicts that the number of planets discovered will increase from about 400 to many thousands in the near future. New advances by UK researchers will allow far more sensitive searches for planets to be conducted, increasing the chances of discovering planets that orbit stars in similar constellations as the earth orbits the sun. These exciting developments have given scientists hope that life on other planets may be discovered in the next few years.
