Ex-Iron Maiden Singer Blaze Bayley Rocks Edinburgh

As we walked into Bannerman’s Rock and Whisky Bar in the heart of Edinburgh last Friday night, we were greeted by a rather unexpected scene. British metal legend Blaze Bayley and his band were just sitting on some sofas near the bar, enjoying a few pre-gig pints while the place was slowly filling with metalheads dressed in the traditional denim and leather. I have been to many shows, but never have I seen the band hang out with fans before a show!

Blaze Bayley: “Promise and Terror” Review

February 1st 2010 marked the release of heavy metal singer Blaze Bayley’s new album “Promise and Terror”.

To say that Bayley’s career has had its ups and downs would be much of an understatement. In fact, it is a testament to his strong will and dedication to music that he is still in the business today, as most trying to follow such an arduous path would have called it a day long ago! Bayley’s 2007 album “The Man Who Would Not Die” no doubt refers to this.

If you like the equator and Spencer Krug....

Then get your paws on this 20-minute "marimba and shit-drums" Dreamland EP by the (mysterious) Moonface (who is a DJ?) and Spencer Krug, whose voice you might recognize from Wolf Parade or Sunset Rubdown.

And then, turn up the volume, and pretend you are somewhere sunnier.

HEAR NO EVIL #3: THE GREAT RED SHARK

Just in time for those exam revision blues, we've got a mix tape to help you chill out and keep the stress at a minimal level so nothing implodes and you stay sane.

HEAR NO EVIL #2: FALKYX

Falkyx.

Master of minimal and wielder of the hardest techno around, Falkyx produces his own tracks along with spinning out mixes at various nights around town, including (most importantly) Sweat.

'Moebius Band' isn't for starting your night. It's not for the come down, either. Falkyx's mix is designed to hit your peak with the beats to make you feel immortal on the dancefloor. There is no time to breathe, so get ready to devote 50 minutes to solid, nonstop foot-stomping.

“Killing In The Name” for Christmas Number 1?

This year’s Christmas number 1 slot is turning out to be very hotly contested! For the past four years, the top spot has been dominated by X-Factor winners, who have wiped out all competition.

However, this year, it’s different! A facebook campaign set up by Tracy and Jon Morter has encouraged people to go out and purchase Rage Against The Machine’s classic 1992 hit “Killing In The Name.” This has now become a massive musical revolution, with over 800,000 facebook group members promising to buy the track, as a statement against the manufactured pop business.

Levek Covers Grizzly Bear, Acapella

Just discovered this from iguessimfloating.blogspot.com.

Up-and-coming artist Levek composes an acapella version of Grizzly Bear's 'Shift,' and carries it off brilliantly.

Pay attention, acapella societies of St Andrews!

Atlas Sound Micromixes

Bradford Cox, member of Deerhunter and the whiz behind Atlas sound has been releasing some pretty neat micromixes on his blog, which are free to download. He jumps around between genres a good deal, and although at times it seems mildly schizophrenic, these are never less than captivating. Elsewhere on the blog are a few of Atlas Sound's Virtual 7" releases for free download.

Atlas Sound's newest album, Logos, was released in October, and Deerhunter released a new EP, Rainwater Cassette Exchange, last spring.
