Star met with Carolanne Hazelwood the student liaison police officer to talk about St.Andrews and staying safe. She tell us how to plan for personal safety when you are out and about while also offering advice on how to keep your home safe. PC Hazelwood also touches on bike safety and the issue of theft.
On the 24th February STAR presented Never Mind the Buzzcocks in Venue 1. Before the show Hannah Franklin met up with some of the creative talent behind the event, inlcuding host Lewis Roy and creative supervisor Andrew Mcintyre Baird.

On the 13th and 14th of February St Andrews University hosted the Scottish University Ultimate Frisbee Regionals. Richard Browne from the STAR News Team was on site to interview participating teams and to find out more about this sport.
University officials have confirmed an outbreak of mumps in St Andrews in an announcement to students earlier today. Health officials are appealing for anyone who has not been fully immunized or does not know if they have been immunized to seek a vaccine from their GP. Symptoms of mumps include a fever, headache, and swollen glands. Officials say anyone with these symptoms should stay out of class for five days from the onset of swollen glands. Rarer and more severe symptoms can include hearing loss and sterility.
Last week, a woman in Dundee went missing on Thursday at 3am. Mary McLaren, aged 34 went missing shortly after departing from Fat Sam’s nightclub. She was last seen on CCTV walking with a man, who is described to be between the age of 30 and 45, 5ft 7inches tall, with fair hair and a moustache. The appeal to find her has been extended to St Andrews students in the hope that some of them may have been in Fat Sam’s and taken pictures.

As we walked into Bannerman’s Rock and Whisky Bar in the heart of Edinburgh last Friday night, we were greeted by a rather unexpected scene. British metal legend Blaze Bayley and his band were just sitting on some sofas near the bar, enjoying a few pre-gig pints while the place was slowly filling with metalheads dressed in the traditional denim and leather. I have been to many shows, but never have I seen the band hang out with fans before a show!
